OVERVIEW
Munsiyari is situated in Pithoragarh, the easternmost hill district of Uttarakhand, bordering Tibet, which is known as the ‘Little Kashmir’. The region is a paradise for nature lovers and adventurous souls. One has a breathtaking view of the Himalayan peak, Panchchuli from here. Munsiyari is the base for the trekkers to Milam and Ralam Glaciers and Nanda Devi peak.
A fast developing center for skiing and other winter sports, Munsiyari is a fairly big & developed Himalayan township at an altitude of 2,298 m. Inhabited by the Shauka tribes from time immemorial, it lies on the trade route to Tibet.
Munsiyari is at the base of the great Himalayan mountain range and is a starting point of various treks into the interior of the Himalayas. Its name, when translated, refers to a ‘place with snow’. Situated on the banks of Gori Ganga River, it is a fast-growing tourist destination. Glacier enthusiasts, high altitude trekkers, and nature lovers commonly use it as their base camp. Munsiyari also falls on the ancient ‘salt route’ from Tibet and is the entrance of the Johar valley which extends along the path of the Gori Ganga River to its source at Milam Glacier.

Panchachuli Peak
A prominent peak that is visible from all the main points of Pithoragarh district, Panchachuli peak looks majestic from Munsiyari. The beauty of the five peaks lying in the Johar Valley is so captivating; it adds charm to this already delightful place.
Nanda Devi Temple
The Kumaoni culture almost always relates everything monumental in the city with God. There is a huge culture of deity worship, and the number of those deities can be dizzying. But all the mythology and stories make up for a believable and memorable story to take back with you. The Nanda Devi temple is your iconic structure of typical Kumaoni architecture. It is dated back to 1000 years, and naturally, well preserved. The Nanda Devi Fair, that started in the 16th century, continues here, and falls every August, much to the delight to all the lovers of lesser-known mythologies.
Birthi Fall
Falling from the height of 126m, Birthi falls offers an extremely refreshing experience. With lush green surroundings blooming in various colors, it makes for an ideal place to sit and enjoy tea and lunch. Situated at a distance of 35 km from Munsiyari, do visit this spectacular place.

Trekking
Munsiyari is base camp of various long and short treks into the inner regions of Kumaon Himalayas. Trek to Milam Glacier, Namik Glacier and Ralam Glacier commences at Munsiyari. Mountaineers, avid trekkers and nature lovers flock at Munsiyari during the trekking season.
Village Tourism
Known for its pristine natural beauty, Munsiyari is a mesmerizing destination which is surrounded by snow-covered Himalayan peaks. One can explore the beautiful village and learn about their customs and culture.
Bird Watching
The dense forests of pine, deodar and rhodenderon that surrounds Munsiyari is home to many resident as well as migratory aviary species like wagtail, raven, Himalayan griffon, falcon and serpent eagle to name a few.
